I recommend that you start with spinach smoothies, because spinach is probably the mildest tasting green to add to your smoothie – so it’s easiest to tolerate, if you are not used to consuming more rich-tasting greens, such as arugula (one of my favorites), kale, or collards.
Here are some great starter recipes for you to have fun with:

Spinach-Mixed-Berries
a cup of fresh spinach
1 cup of strawberries, blueberries, blackberries, raspberries (fresh or frozen)
(I use mixed berries that I buy at BJ’s)
2 bananas (fresh or frozen)
1 1/2 cup water
For the Mixed Berries Smoothie I usually use frozen organic mixed berries I buy at BJs – a big 3 lbs bag for $9.99 – they are amazing in smoothies – and this is simply my favorite smoothie!
Spinach-Blueberry
1 large banana, ripe
1 cup blueberries, frozen (or Wild Blueberries from BJ’s)
1 cup oz spinach, fresh
1 1/2 cups pure water
For this smoothie, I’m using frozen Wild Blueberries from BJ’s – a big 3 lbs bag for $7.99 – they are amazing in smoothies – and this is simply my favorite smoothie!
Spinach-Mixed Tropical Fruit
1 large banana, ripe and peeled
1/4 avocado flesh
6 oz spinach, fresh
1/2 cup pineapple, frozen
1/2 cup mango, frozen
1/2 cup grapes, frozen
1/2 cup strawberries, frozen
1 1/2 cup water
For this smoothie, I’m using frozen mixed fruits from BJ’s – a big 5 lbs bag for $9.99 – great value and taste!
Spinach-Pear-Celery
1 cup spinach
2 pears
1 stalk of celery
1 cup water
Spinach-Peach
1 cup spinach leaves
6 peaches
2 cups water
Spinach-Kiwi
1 banana
2 peaches
2 handfuls of spinach leaves
1 cup water
Spinach-Watermelon-Strawberries
One half small seeded watermelon, peel and all
10 strawberries
1 bunch spinach
1 cup water
Spinach-Mango Green Smoothie
1 large banana, ripe
1 cup mangoes
1/2 cup strawberries
5 oz spinach
1 cup of water
Spinach-Banana-Orange Smoothie Recipe
2 large ripe bananas
2 oranges
1 cup of baby spinach
Spinach and Cantaloupe Melon Smoothie Recipe

Here is a savory recipe for a spinach-tomato smoothie:
4 ripe plum tomatoes
1 handful of spinach leaves

You can drink spinach juice with ingredients as follow: 1/2 tomato, 1/4 cucumber, 1 carrot, 1 celery stalk, a handful of spinach, 1/2 Red Pepper, 1/2-Cup of Cabbage, and 1 green onion. Put all the ingredients on the juicer and you can drink this juice daily. It is effective for skin healing and will protect your skin from acne.

Although I much prefer applying greens “internally”, spinach can also be applied externally to your skin. Just blend a few leaves with little water and apply it to your face as acne mask for 20 minutes. It will help your skin to remove dirt, oil, and inflammation. One caveat: Because of the high oxalic acid content of spinach, some experts recommend to keep your spinach intake down to once or twice a week. Also, if you have any health issues such as kidney stones, it’s best to avoid spinach altogether. Accutane Side Effects: Should You Be Using Accutane for Acne (Shocking!)
Accutane is a prescription medication used to treat moderate to severe acne. Its generic name is isotretinoin; other trade names include Amnesteem, Claravis, Clarus, Isotane, Izotek, or Sotret. It is a retinoid, meaning it is a synthetic form of Vitamin A and is found in small quantities naturally in the body.
Accutane creates a potentially long-lasting change in the cells lining the pore. This change prevents pore openings from getting plugged, so oil can flow freely to the skin’s surface. It also reduces the amount of oil secreted by oil glands in the skin and helps your skin renew itself faster.
Accutane is usually used for acne only after other treatments and/or antibiotics have been tried but failed to produce successful clearing of symptoms.
What’s interesting to note the drug was first developed to be used as a chemotherapy medication for the treatment of brain cancer, pancreatic cancer and other cancers. It is still used in the treatment of these cancers because of its ability to kill rapidly dividing cells.
Accutane Side Effects
Adverse drug reactions associated with isotretinoin therapy include:
* Common: Mild acne flare, dryness of skin, lips and mucous membranes, infection of the cuticles, cheilitis, itch, rosacea, skin fragility, skin peeling, rash, flushing, nose bleeds, dry eyes, diffuse alopecia areata, eye irritation, conjunctivitis, reduced tolerance to contact lenses, hyperlipidaemia, raised liver enzymes, permanent thin skin, headaches, permanent hair thinning (This could start or continue after treatment), myalgia and/or arthralgia, back pain.* Infrequent: severe acne flare, raised blood glucose level, increased erythrocyte sedimentation rate, fatigue.
* Rare: impaired night vision; cataracts; optic neuritis; menstrual disturbances; inflammatory bowel disease; pancreatitis; hepatitis; corneal opacities; papilloedema; idiopathic intracranial hypertension; skeletal hyperostosis; extraosseous calcification; psychosis; and it is believed that severe depression can occur, although there is no conclusive evidence for this.
The following adverse effects have been reported to persist, even after discontinuing therapy: alopecia (hair loss), arthralgias, decreased night vision, inflammatory bowel disease, degenerative disc disease, keloids, bone disease. High dosages of isotretinoin have been reported to cause rosacea (a disease of severe facial skin redness and irritation).

* For your baby’s sake, you must NEVER, EVER take Accutane when you are pregnant.
* Accutane can cause severe, life-threatening birth defects if the woman takes the medication during pregnancy. A single dose of Accutane can lead to defects of the baby’s eyes, ears, skull, heart, and brain. It can also lead to miscarriage, premature birth, or even death of the baby.
* Fertile women of childbearing age who take Accutane must not be pregnant or become pregnant during treatment or for three months after discontinuing treatment.
* Prior to starting the treatment any woman of child-bearing age must agree in writing to take two forms of birth control and take pregnancy tests prior to, during and following the treatment.

Accutane has been in use for acne treatment since 1984, and for many people suffering from severe and persistent nodular acne – it certainly is a miracle drug they have been praying for. Only about thirty percent will need a second course, and about ten percent will fail to respond.
Accutane in the US is available only under a special program called iPLEDGE. To take the medicine, you need to register in the program and sign the release forms and consent to the terms. Patients are required to take blood tests during the course of treatment to make sure the side effects are kept under control.
